1969-74 Globetrotter tailight repair- I need your old leftovers
Hello, I am Writing in hopes that some of you have kept those old rusty black tailight cans when did your repairs.... could you contact me if you have 1 or 2 that you would be willing to part with? No worries if they are rusted badly.... I am a good welder and looking for pieces to weld in
Thank you.
Thank you for your reply, but not wanting LED sealed units or the Machined aluminum inserts from vintage trailer supply...just some old rusty leftovers.
Being your a welder, just do what I've seen a buddy do in his welding business when needing to make cans. Though, I can't remember the exact size needed, just take some 4" OD round tube (I think), weld it up to some flat stock and make your own cans.
You'll then need drill out the hole for the light and your done.
Let us know how they turn out.
Oh, don't forget to weld on the three ears needed to attach the lenses.,
Vintage trailer carries an aluminum tail light cannister made just for your application. I replaced all four of mine a couple of years ago, and was very pleased with the finished product. One thing I would recommend to anyone doing this, is to use stainless screws on the lens, and to put anti-sieze on the threads.

How did you get the old one’d out? I tried and gave up.. I pop riveted an aftermarket bulb socket in place just to get me home. But would like to make it right. Seems like you could find something like those in a salvage yard?
If you mean how did you remove the lens, there are three steel straight blade screws... mine were rusted but the threads don't engage much in the black stamped steel buckets and with a proper blade were removed.if they round off or snap you can drill the head off remove the lens and use pliers to back out the remaining threaded rod.
If you mean the black steel rusted buckets, each one has two pop rivets and can be drilled out and the bucket lifts out.
Well I finished restoring the taillights and back up lights of my 69 Globetrotter....AS many know the black cannisters that hold the bulb socket and the lens rust out. What I ended up doing was researching the company who makes the lenses, CYCLOSTAT, and found out they have made tail lights for military jeeps, tractors, and a multitude of vehicles including Airstream.
Fast forward...I found NOS assemblies on Ebay that had lenses, gaskets and black cannisters....the only thing I needed to do was to use a cut off blade to remove the studs that were used for mounting them off the back of the black can, grind a bit and paint black....they turned out perfect...of course I had to drill the rivet mounting holes, but they are perfect and brand new....
The NOS parts are plentiful on ebay if you look. Hope that help you out !
