1960 Overlander restoration

Hello Everybody

As I said in the other post (my presentation), here a new post in order to tell you my project, the restoration.

10 years ago I fell in love US style and life... cars, music, landscapes, Airstream... and I possessed a Chevy Camaro 1988, Chevy Corvette 1985 and a Jeep Cherokee 2001 and now I hope my Airstream from Texas (AZ certificate of title).

I'll receive it in january to Zeebrugge in Belgium ! I'm very happy and very impatient to get it !
It's an 1960 Overlander (September 1960) in good condition, the shape is very good, the châssis too but it need little repair and I shall repair it and shall strengthen it.
The interior is empty but all panels are presents as I would like !
We wish to make ourselves the interior with our conveniences and practical installations adapted for Europe !

Please find few fotos while waiting the delivery !

See you soon !

Gaël,
It looks like you have a nice straight clean trailer to build your very own 1960 Airstream! We have 1963 that has been completely rebuilt and we enjoyed the process.

Post lots of photos!

Hello !

Yes, many thanks, I think you're reason !

To me, the overlander is a good idea in europe because, we can't drive too big trailers, our roads are too littles... that's why I've choose this one.

I can say too that this classified was a chance for me.

All the best and see you soon !

AAAAHHHHHH yes I have one. All I have left to do is put the toilet in. A 6 month project that took 2.5 years, but it is worth it. Got the plates for it last week. Planning a camping run over Christmas.

Bienvenue! Overlander...c'est un bon choix!! Did you use index to import? I've been so curious about the people doing the Airstream exports to France. I am glad you are using this forum - c'est une tres bonne idee par'ce que les moderateurs sont exceptionnelles et tres serviables! (my computer isn't doing accents - sorry)

Bonne chance!

Hi !

Yes, I'm very happy to join this forum, it's the best !

Brian, I haven't read all the posts but as soon as I have many time, I'll read you with pleasure to discover your project !

I use Airstream connection to import it because I haven't enough time to go to USA with my wife...
5 years ago, I wanted to do it myself with good advises from an Airstream owner
Perhaps, in few years, I'll try to do it myself...? When this one will be finish !

Grrrrr...I wrote a too long post but I met a computer problem and all I wrote is disapeared !

Thanks for your posts and I tell you as soon as that I have news about my project !

Hi Gael,
Greetings from UK, Nice looking overlander, i had a 73 Overlander as my 1st trailer, i now have 1960 Avion H24, from looking at the pictures they are very similar in design and build, i was luck with my Avion that the inside is still intact so i have pattern and layout. i am re-modelling the Avion sort of mordern retro
i like the reliability and availability of modern heating/cooling/ electrics/ plumbing etc etc.
my only advice for you is do not get too carried away, first and foremost i would suggest making her watertight ALL vintage trailers leak!!! anyone who says they dont is a fibber, and you have the perfect opportunity to seal her as the skins are out.
good luck
regards
Tim

Hello !

Thank you for your replies and yes Tim, I agree about your advices and I'll try to take the better way possible in order to restore it with good ideas... with a timeless, beautiful, sober, practical inside...

Yes you're reason, an Avion looks like similar... !

that is the WBBCCI Wally Byam Caravan Club member number of a former owner, you can look it up to get their name, and if you join you can use that number again. In fact they will send you new ones to go on your trailer. Not sure what good it would do for you in Europe though.

Yes, you're reason, it's a member number and I confirm, it isn't used in Europe...

And can I know anything about the precedents owners with this number ?
