1960 Airstream Pacer

I just purchased a 1960 pacer that needs some work. It has a toilet but the person I'm getting it from has never used it and is unaware of any holding tanks, he says this was a park model. So I know it will need some electric upgrades. Is it possible to equip it with a shower and have a hot water heater installed? I also have a 1966 caravel. My passion is to restore the interiors of these and will have to rely on outside help for any mechanical issues. The caravel is in great shape, not sure about the Pacer. The person I'm getting it from (have not seen it, just photos) says the floor is solid, hasn't used the stove or fridge so he does not know about the gas.... so it will need work

Congrats on your Pacer! Post a few pictures! We'd love to see them.

I don't think any of the 1960s models had a holding tank, shower, etc. If I recall the 1963 models were the first totally self contained... (others should chime in here if I am wrong!)
I am sure it can be retrofitted for a shower, etc. you might have to do some "fancy footwork" to get it done... you might ask what others have done to retrofit their AS.

Good luck!

We have and are in the process of repairing/updating a 66 caravel and we are awaiting the welders call to tell us that he has completed the frame work. Take and post lots of pictures please they help you and give us a point of reference for any questions. Welcome and enjoy and if you have any questions just ask.

1960 Pacer

Thanks for the quick response...will start posting pics as soon as they arrive. 66 Caravel arrives Wed. it's being flatbedded from Santa Fe and I'm arranging the transport of the Pacer hopefully this week. I am clueless as to what the Pacer needs, the Caravel just needs my interior touch...some cleaning of the wood, otherwise it seems to be ready to go...I bought the caravel to use when I travel with my dogs...the Pacer I'd like to redesign. I have a guest house in Upstate NY and they could also serve as back up rooms when needed. I will certainly post pics and I'm sure many questions. So happy to be a part of this fun group...

HI! Congrats on your Pacer! We are looking at one and hoping to get it soon. It didn't have a black water tank either. We would put one in along with a hot water heater
Did you buy yours in NY? Not many around. Trying to locate a Bambi too.

1960 Pacer vs. 1966 Caravel

So as it turns out I passed on the Pacer...The 1966 17' Caravel arrived and when I realized what it would need I realized getting the Pacer too would have been just too much right now. As soon as this heat breaks I will post pics of the Caravel and no doubt will have many questions as to how to proceed....

The first thing you will have to replace is the axel, if it wasn't done already. The wheels will fall off when you least expect it if you don't do it.

When you get pictures we can see better but I say check the vents plumbing and fridge ours have cracks that just broke later the fridge vent had a hole in it. So I would say treat any leaks first.

I am looking forward to getting the frame back so we can start reconstruction. So far I have found this a very fun project and am ready to start putting her back together.

Hey, remember, we Caravels only have two wheels, so if one falls off we're toast

I replaced my axle because the ride was shaking the trailer apart.

I tried contacting the seller, he has not replied (sadly to me since I had given a deposit that now seems to have been lost)..I could surely use it now since the 66 Caravel arrived which sadly did not look as good in person as it did in photos. I'm in the process of gutting it, seems to be issues with floor behind shower pan.....more to be revealed
