A buddy of mine upgraded from an (SOB) towed to a MOHO. He has very kindly passed his old Prodigy to me (thanks Reed!). I'm trying to figure out the wiring on this thing.
Specifics are:
He was towing with a Toyota PU, so that's the wiring harness that came with the controller. I'm towing with an '02 F250. To further complicate things, the under-dash connector on my truck was removed by a PO, just bare wires there. I currently have my ancient brake controller hard wired in there and it works (poorly). So now I have to figure out which wires from the dash harness need to be wired to what on the controller. Make sense?
The wires from the controller are clearly marked. 1) positive 2) negative 3) truck brakes 4) trailer brakes.
Problem is that I don't know which wires coming from under the dash perform those same functions. More in a few minutes.
My old TV was an F150, new one is an F250, so when I wired in the ancient controller, I simply matched color for color on the "pigtail" connection on the new truck and it worked. I have no real idea which wires on the truck perform what functions.
So here's the question...the positive an negative should be easy to find with a Multimeter. If I push the brake peddle, I should see voltage on one of the two remianing wires, right? That wire should logically connect to the controller wire marked "truck brake", right?
Just trying to do this right 'cuz i don't wanna burn sumpin' up.
