TruControl Gold Brake Controller

Does anyone have any recent experience/opinion/remarks about the TruControl Gold Brake Controller made by Hensley Mfg? I'm not sure if the older posts are about the current model.

We need to get a brake controller to tow our 1993 Excella 1000 with our Ford 2003 F-250 pick-up.

I've been unhappy with my Prodigy trailer brake controller for years, but especially since we got the new trailer. Twice on our last trip we had a situation where we had to stop pretty quick and both times were scary. I did some research and found the TruControl by Hensley Manufacturing. They sell two models; silver and gold; the gold has a lot more features. They're having a closeout sale because they're about to come out with a new model (hard to believe anything could be better than this). These have been selling for $397 but are now half price and include a 60 day money back-no questions asked return policy. Honestly, they couldn't pay me to return it! This unit is absolutely light years ahead of the Prodigy! There is no gain adjustment, and no boost feature. That's because it doesn't need it. You install it, set the initial sensitivity to your own liking, and that's it. No more jerking, locking of the trailer brakes, or worries of stopping. The trailer brakes perfectly in tune with the truck!

I bought the Trucontrol gold at the closeout price a month ago. Drove from Toronto down through Kentucky and over to Nashville and then back home.
It worked flawlessly in all situations. It's hard to believe but when you set it up right you really don't feel the trailer push or pull you when stopping.
It just works.

Strange... This controller has been out for a while, and would appear to have revolutionary technology, but I can't find one other thread about it other than this one.

Have that few people tried it out?

The darn thing is just waaaaaaay too expensive for most people.

I know one other person on the forums that has one, and I'm about ready to order one. (It's almost affordable at half-price.)

Gold-plating? I dunno. From the comments, who would need it to do more?

The rep told me it uses a gyroscope to sense speed changes and deceleration. Sounds pretty Starship to me, Scotty!

Boy, I'm not sure where to go with all this. I have a P3 and I may be outdated already. Things move soooo quickly and I move so slooooowly. Perhaps I'll catch up someday. jc

We just got back from our first trip in several years.....with the new controller. After having a few different units I can tell you this one preformed flawlessly.

This is our third Season with the Tru-Control.
Once I got the settings correct for our coach it has been a hands-free unit.
No constant adjustments needed for changing driving conditions, no grabbing or surprise lock-up's. Easy set-up and nice display features.

IMHO there isn't a better controller on the market, worth every penny.

Has anyone out there had a P3 and a Gold, so they can compare the two. I understand they are comparable but would like to get other opinions if anyone has tried both. jc

I'm hoping the Jordan will be produced again by the time I need a new one. I love mine, it's everything the fans of the Hensley controller say theirs' are - at about a third of the price!

As I have posted elsewhere ( http://www.airforums.com/forums/f439...nts-42641.html , http://www.airforums.com/forums/f439...ler-36497.html and http://www.airforums.com/forums/f439...tml#post695651 ) we are very happy with our Hensley Tru-Control Gold Brake Controller AND it does have the advantage that it is still made, while the Jordan has not been available for some time.
