Today I will attempt to tow '78 Ambassador 28' from the marsh where it has been sitting for 8yrs. TV is a full size Broncho. Owner has hauled 40' boat. I replaced all tires. 60psi. Checked all bearings and they had blue grease. Concern is brake wire that was strapped to belly heading to the roadside brake. The straps have failed and wire is on the ground. Since I will not be using the brakes I think I will undo the last attached lead and roll the wire up and secure to tongue. The trip is ten miles with six of it on the interstate. Small amount of "stuff" inside the AS. Will secure everything. Will know if any exterior lights are functional when plug in 4 pin hook-up. Any other suggestions or thoughts appreciated. I will refer to this as my bringing my own Leprechan home. Airstream is now green with mold! Thanks. Jack

Skamper1...congratulations on your find. When we picked up our "78" Ambassador we hauled it out of the woods. Just take your time and watch your speed. You should find that it will tow without a problem. We are towing with an Avalanche and don't even know it is behind us. Make sure you door is secure. Post some more pictures when you get a chance.

That trailer will bounce a fulsize bronco around a bit. Be carefull without brakes it will push HARD while stopping. Give yourself A LOT OF ROOM TO STOP!! It can be done BUT you HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION OF OTHERS!! They dont know it doesent have brakes and will jump in front of you because they dont want to go slow or cant see around it. Please be carefull, and good luck.

Well you've got to move it to someplace where it can be worked on, but:

1) I would not move that combination faster than 5 mph without a weight-distributing hitch and no brakes. With a WD hitch and no brakes I wouldn't go faster than 25 mph.

2) Pick a time when there isn't much traffic.

3) If I were in your situation I would avoid the freeway and figure out an alternative route where you can keep your speed down without worrying about getting hit or getting a ticket.

4) Stopping is going to be a real problem, the distances will go up and you will have trouble maintaining directional control.

I know you sometimes do what you have to in a pinch. I hope the Bronco is not going to be your tow vehicle. Bronco is to short wheelbase, too high center of gravity and not heavy enough for that.
Be really really careful and go slow. U just need to get it there in one piece. AND YOU

It is done! The AS did "wag the dog a bit". We chose the slowest part of the day. First mile was a hail of pinestraw, leaves and I swear other unidentifyable objects. She moved like a dream. Driver has years of experience. Fun part was backing it down a 400' alley. Neighbors all came out to see it. Hope they still feel this way after a month. Tow vechicle will be a 2500 Chevy diesel 4x4. Interstate was the easiest part. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes. Now to give it a good cleaning. Did not think it would be wise to drive through the car/AS wash. Jack
