Testing brake magnets

I need a little help here...
History- 66 Safari- after 45 years of use I thought it's time for a new axle... The old brakes worked fine as did the breakaway switch.

I finished installing the new axle Friday and the wiring... On the old axle I could pull the brakeaway switch and hear the magnet on each wheel engaging, and the breakaway switch also has a built in light saying the switch was engaged.

Tested the new unit and the breakway light says engaged but I can't hear the magnet? How do you test the magnets?

Barry in Mich.

Sorry brain freeze, or maybe old age creeping in... I went back out and free spun the wheels (the trailer still on blocks) and they turned -- well free. I then disengaged the breakway switch and tried to turn wheels. Now I know how to test the magnets
