Tekonsha P3
I was talking to a guy that installs electric brake systems in vehicles and I mentioned I had a P3, he said he doesnt like them because if there is corrosion in the wiring the P3 will shut down leaving you with no brakes. He said other brands dont shut down. As I dont know if true or not I just said it works great for me... So anyone know anything about this?

I've had a P3 for about 2 years, which isn't long, but it appears to be made from high quality materials. I've had no problems and works very well. At the risk of being cynical, maybe the guy doesn't sell Tekonsha products?
If the corrosion is happening outside of the controller itself, I don't see how any of the other brands would function either. They all send the braking signal down the same blue wire to your trailer plug near the hitch.

I have two tow vehicles, a 2004 Suburban 2500 and a 2005 Suburban 2500. The '04 has a Tekonsha P3, the '05 had a Tekonsha Prodigy. I tow a lot and have never had a moments trouble with either Tekonsha brake control unit.
It also seems to me that if the wiring is corroded, you've got a problem regardless of the brand of brake controller that you are using.

he could be right, and I could be wrong, but I'm having trouble imagining how corroded wiring will allow any brake controller to operate properly. oh, yes, I' be sure to trust my braking system to corroded wiring!
we've used a P3 for nearly two years by now, and are perfectly happy with it's performance....
best,

Ok, talked to that guy again today and quizzed him some and he said he was talking about the old ones 10+ yrs old. He said on the old ones if you lost current to one brake due to say a bad connection, the controller would sense the circuit not complete and shut down brake current. It doesnt sound right to me so I just ended the conversation. geeeeee

Question about a Prodigy controller
From reading several post I think I will buy a prodigy controller. my question is the difference in a P3 and a P2. Seems the p2 is newer but cost a little less. Is there advantages one over the other or is it mostly display. Is the P2 new and improved. Any advice.

P3 is newer thus why the increment in version number.
Had both - my P3 is one revision better - check out Prodigy's web site for an exact comparison of features.

I installed a P3 about three months ago. I love it. The voyager that I used to have would snap our necks because it was time based. The P3 is a great upgrade.

The P3 is the ONLY brake controller that I install. If you want a quality unit that is easy to initialize, works flawlessly and operates with either electric or hydraulic-electric brakes, it is the one for you. IMHO, there is NOTHING as important as properly acting trailer brakes when towing.
