reverse light problems

The reverse lights on my truck do not work.

When I hook up to my trailer the back-up beeper and the trailer reverse light are constanly on. my guess it's a wiring problem with the electric brake in the truck. I'm not afraid to jump in and try to fix it myself with some guidance if anyone has willing to help.

Thanks

Pablo,
Could it be a crossed wire in the plug that plugs into the TV? If I remember correctly the center wire is the backup light. You may want to make sure the backup wire isn't crosses / toucing one it shouldn't. You may also want to check corresponding lead on the truck side with the trailer unplugged with a tester to see if that lead is hot / has current.

This is a link to a wiring schematic for the 7 way RV plug...

First off have your ever towed the trailer with another truck and had no problem? This may help will indicate if the problem is in the truck or not.

And can we assume the trialer is wired with a standard 7 pin plug?

Who wired the truck?

One of the pins on a seven-pin connector is the charge wire. It sounds like the connector was mis-wired.

I'll bet your battery only charges when you are in reverse....

Hey guys, thanks for all the feed-back...

The TV was the best...not sure if that was just about the date of the post, or what. I have seen the schematic at my local RV shop and the center pole is back-up.

And I thought all a/s's had a back-up beeper or did I mispell beaper?

The last time it was pulled by someone else there was no problem.

The idea of the batteries not charging unless it is in reverse would explain why the charge didn't last the last two times out.

So here's where I'm at right now. I have just arrived from the Dodge dealership and it turns out the truck had a bad sensor and has been replaced. the truck now haw working reverse lights.

Next will be when I hook-up to see what happens...

I'll post more info this weekend.

Thanks again to all
