Repairing electric brake assemblies on a '61 Tradewind?
While waiting for the Tekonsha brake controller to arrive, I thought I'd strip/clean/refurbish the brakes on our '61 Tradewind. I only had enough time to dismantle one this evening and this is what I found:
The manual adjuster was missing (attachment 1).
... and I managed to recover what I believe are all the pieces from inside the drum (attachment 2)
I suppose that I had a lucky escape here in that nothing jammed and stopped the wheel from turning.
One option I've been looking at is buying new Dexter 12" x 2" backing plate assemblies which I think would be a very close replacement. I'm guessing that I'd have to drill additional holes in the backing plate to transplant the tubular collar (held on by slot-head screws) below, or can I safely ignore it it? (attachment 3)
The snag for me in terms of buying new is I can't find a supplier of these in the UK. Shipping from the US will a) take weeks and b) be more than double the cost of the parts owing to the weight. That's something I might just have to live with but I'm wondering, for the cost of a simple adjuster and spring, perhaps I can just re-use what I have if I can find replacement springs/adjusters? Any ideas where I can buy just the adjusters/springs?
