If the Navigator has only a 4-prong connector it doesn't have the tow package.

Ford's tow package includes the 7-pin blade connector. The 4-prong connector is lights-only, no brake or charge line.

What's included in a tow package? The owner said he's towed a car across California with it, so is a package simply an extension of an already-existing ability to tow?

So if the Navigator is indeed only 4, what's involved in converting it to 7? A plug-and-play harness? Extra wiring? Something like this?

Much appreciated.

Ford truck tow package (Navigator and Expedition count as trucks for this) includes the bigger receiver, 7-pin trailer connector, prewire for brake controller, bigger transmission cooler and oil cooler.

For a 7-pin connection to the trailer, in addition to the 4-pin wiring you need a line for braking voltage from the brake controller, 12v supply for charging the trailer battery and a line for reverse lights. The 12v supply and reverse light part is somewhat optional, I don't think reverse lights are required in any state but the big difference is the brake wire, and that's the least convenient to install.

Hi, at this point, I think it would be best to just call them and have them look at the rear of the Navigator and see which trailer connector it has.

Thanks guys

Main reason I'm being so hypothetical is that I'm leaving tomorrow after work.

I think I have all my variables covered for now. Much appreciated.

Hi all,

I wanted to follow-up as you were all so helpful in making this happen.

The Navigator already had the 7-prong harness, thus it had also the adapter under the steering wheel ready to go for the controller.

I'm yet to pick up the Airstream, but I imagine it will go smoothly tomorrow.

Thanks again.
