Quick brake size question... '76 Ambassador

Hi guys, I'm working on my brakes and bearings and I decided to replace all 4 backing plates. I, however, forgot to measure the plate, and as I've been working on it at my friend's place an hour away, I can't simply go out and measure it. I think it's 12" but I'm about to order and hoping they get here before we leave on a trip on April 3rd. Thanks.

Chae,

The brakes on my 1979 Safari are 12", I believe, except for the shortest trailers 12" was the standard until the conversion to 14" wheels on the 23' trailers.

Thanks. I think I'm going to order. I've been holding my hands out at 10" and 12" for the last hour or so, trying to remember which looks "right" from memory, but my poor brain is older than my trailer and it's not working so good...

I believe the backing plates on 12" brakes have 5 bolts where 10" have 4 bolts. Perhaps you could have someone check before ordering.

I believe this is true. Also, you may be able to determine based on weight of trailer...10" for 3500# or less and 12" for heavier.

Thanks all. I confirmed this morning. 12". I had to order last night to take advantage of shipping discount so I took the leap.

As an aside, got a nasty surprise when I opened up the LH rear drum. The spring had corroded and snapped and there were metal bits rattling around inside the drum. I thought I heard something last time I pulled it...
