Question about trailer brake for 16ft Bambi

Hi everyone...we are brand new to this. Bought a new 16 ft Bambi International today that will be towed with a BMW X5. My question is do you think it's necessary to use a separate trailer brake or is the car computer adequate? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't think the X5 has a built-in trailer brake contoller in the system. I thought perhaps I just wasn't familiar with it, and searched a bit. I found LOTS of entries on the 'net about people installing Tekonsha Prodigy brake controllers in X5s, and I'd think they wouldn't bother if BMW provided trailer brake controls.

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

Even a Bambi needs brakes, it has them... it only makes sense to use them.

Install a brake controller in the Bimmer... Stream Safe & HAPPY!!!

By all means, get a good brake controller. A hard stop on a wet road and the Bambi might decide to run around in front of the X5 without trailer brake. Trailer brakes greatly reduce the stress on the tow vehicle braking system.

I tow with an X5 and had a break controller installed for my 19' Bambi. It makes a huge difference stopping, especially on steep hills. Brake controllers are pretty inexpensive and you'll be happy you have it.

Unsafe and illegal not to have the trailer brakes hooked up. If the vehicle does not have a controller you have to install one . Don't know about the BMW but many vehicles are prewired for one and the install is a 10-15 minute job.
