Welcome to the forums.
Your drums will come off like the front brake drums of 1960's vintage cars, with a couple of small differences.
First, raise the coach by pulling it up anot a pair of wooden blocks or ramps under one wheel on each side, so that two tires are off the ground.
Remove the tires that are off the ground.
Remove the grease cap from the hub, and remove the cotter pin, castle nut, and washer.
Slide out the outer bearing, and thread the castle nut back on the spindle a few turns.
Slide the drum off the spindle, and as you do so, you will be able to use the castle nut as a tool to remove the inner bearing and seal by sliding it up to the nut, and tapping the bearing and seal out, hopefully without damaging the seal.
Now that the drum is off, you will see the other difference from a car--no hydraulic system.
I don't know if you are familiar with electric brakes, but I will give you a fast rundown on what to look for. You will find a magnet, probably round, on a bracket out front of the brake hardware. Look at the magnet. If the magnet has worn down to the point where the little brass screws are level with the magnet material, they will need to be replaced. Hopefully not, for your first go-round with the brake system.
Make sure the bracket the magnet is on freely works the brake linkage, you will see the shoes move outward as you move the magnet toward the rear of the trailer. If it does, great, if not, you will need to free up the linkage so it works. Check the brake linings to make sure there is still lining left, 3/32" is usually considered minimum for shoe thickness.
If all this checks out, have a helper apply the trailer brake controller in your tow vehicle (it must be hooked up to the trailer), and hold a compass near the brake magnet. If the compass needle swings toward the mahnet, it is good, and you can repack your wheel bearings and reassemble the drum and wheel, using a new grease seal and new cotter pin. You can now move on to the next drum.
Also, trailer brakes are different from right to left, so if you need parts, be sure to specify which side you need when ordering.
Good luck with it.

Still a mystery ...

53FC:

Perhaps I think too hard or too long about all this, but I've never been able to figure out whether the diagrams you posted represent (A) the two faces of the trailer and tow vehicle plugs, i.e. their mating surfaces, or (B) the opposite ends of each plug where one actually connects the wires to each plug (which seems to make more sense to me than having to "flip" each diagram mentally to get the correct result at the connecting end). Why are these diagrams never labeled to indicate the actual viewpoint, front or rear of each plug??

Fred,

They are always looking at the pin side of the plug or receptical and not the cord side.

pin number seven in the above diagram should be labeled back up lights.

Thanks, Bill. So I'll have to remember to look at the diagrams in a mirror when connecting the wires to the opposite [cord] end of the plug, or maybe scan the diagrams into Photoshop, reverse them side to side, and print them out to look at when wiring the cord ends of the plugs, to satisfy my simple yet direct mind.

Bearing adjustment

Just how tight do you adjust the wheel bearings after packing?
I used the old hand snug then back off 1/4-1/2 turn method.
What is proper method?

My left tire is wearing significantly on the inside after 3600 miles. The right tire is fine. Could this be bearings loose?

If the axle was tweaked I would expect both tires to show wear.

brakes on in reverse

Can someone help me figure why my brakes lock tight when I put TV in reverse?? Brakes work as advertised in forward gears and neutral.

I have to disconnect trailer to back it up.

walter1, sounds like the electric brake line is tied into the backup light circuit somehow. Do your electric brakes work at all?

Hi walter1--Correct wheel bearing adjustment: Tighten nut hand tight, or lightly with a wrench. Spin wheel to smooth out grease. Grab top and bottom of wheel and shake. Should be no looseness. Loosen nut one position and line up holes in spindle & nut. Grab top and bottom of wheel and shake. Should be some looseness. If not loosen one more position and shake as before. If looseness detected install cotter pin, and dust cap, and you are ready to go.

Inside tire wear might be wheel to loose, or alignment problem like a bent spindle.

Trailer brakes lock in reverse may be a brake controller incorrectly connected. Some controllers disable brakes when in reverse to improve low speed backing up. That line may be connected to a hot line in error.--Frank S

Sounds like the backup light circuit is also hooked up to yout brakes.

Could be nothing more than one strand of wire touching the brake circuit.

I think without a torque wrench and the right torque settings you would need you would not know. Another good way to tell is if you have tightened them enough. You would have to have the wheel off ground tighten the lugs and see if the wheel wobles when you try to pull on it side to side.

Check that the backup lights and the brake wire are not crossed. In my case this was not the problem, the PO had drilled the frame rail that the cable rann in and drilled the cable shorting the wires together, a real mess.

That's what is odd. The brakes work as they should...as long as I am going forward or in neutral. Somehow I am getting voltage (from backup lights0 when I put the TV in reverse.
Hmm...I'll get out the volt meter and check whats where
