Positive ground.
Hi, this thread has had me thinking and that could be dangerous. Way back in the early 80's, while working as a quick service mechanic at a Ford dealer, I worked on a brand new Ford F-650 that was Positive ground. Anyone out there doubt this?

Aaaaah the result!!!
The day was very nice and sunny.
A great day to be on the road.
The BBQ was tasty.
Learned about camp sites south of Phoenix.
And the 1999 US truck production of vehicles is consistant in the mounting of battery cables with every other vehicle of that year. And years since. For this dual battery diesel powered 3/4 ton TV, the black cable on the driver's side battery was bolted to the front of the Cummins.

Action,
That makes perfect sense cause if it was hooked up backwards the engine would run backwards too and instead of filling the tank, you'd have to stop every couple hundred miles and suction out the diesel it would be generating instead of consuming!
Ok I'll go back to my CURRENT project.

And the peripherals, such as lights, fuel pump etc have a switched negative and an active positive which is controlled via a 5-volt system from the computer, hence it's misnomered as a "positive ground". This switched negative system results in less current running under the dash.
The lunch, BTW was most enjoyable.

Wow!!! Hook the fuel tank of a positive ground truck directly to the fuel tank of a negative ground truck and you would have the perpetual motion machine that has eluded scientists since the dawn of man.

Knows this because two positive cats making a temporary connection to one negative cat can produce both heat and light for the trailer interior.

Hi, I surprised that no-one doubted my story of the Ford F-650 with positive ground. So I will explain this story to you. One day they brought me a new Ford F-650 to repair the stop lights. Everything on this truck worked correctly, lights gauges starter motor, diesel engine and all. After checking wiring diagrams and tracing power with my test light, I found an inline diode to the brake lights. I tested the diode and it worked correctly and could only be plugged in one way. This was really strange. After further examining this truck, I noticed some Mickey Mouse battery cables. Come to find out; This truck was sent out for a stake bed and lift gate installation. While this truck was on their lot, the batteries were stolen, and their crew bought new batteries and aftermarket cables, and wired them up backwards. I was amazed that everything worked except the brake lights.

My first truck was a 1961 Mack COE with positive ground, and believe me, it was hard to make anything work right. Sal

1951 Chevy truck ground
Maybe in Great Britain the Chevy trucks were positive ground, but the wiring diagram in the US suggest negative ground. I suspect before solid state this could potentially get reversed in some bizarre manner, but the wiring diagram shows negative ground:
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...df/51truck.pdf
So, maybe in some cases correcting a ground issue is important before hooking up a trailer. OK, a few years old, but the link to old cars electrical diagrams may bone helpful.

Now, that would be cool. The dual DeLorean setup would have the power to pull an infinite number of stainless steel airstreams of any length. Granted aluminum is cool, but stainless rules.
