Frayed Emergency Brake Cable

I just bought a '93 Excella, and yesterday I discovered that the end of the emergency brake cable is frayed. What type of replacement cable do I need?

Disconnect the battery, pull the pin and take the cable to a hardware store. They should be able to match the diameter of the cable, cut off the old loop, rethread the pin and crimp on new sleeves. Shouldn't cost more than $6.

Had the folks at the local Lowe's make mine up. Less than $5.00 if I recall correctly.

Break away switch cble

Replacing the cable is OK.

Just make "SUPER POSITIVE" that the loops in the cable, cannot possibly become undone.

If that happens, the breakaway switch pin will never pull.

I would, like Andy say's, REPLACE the cable. Cable and clamps should be available at your local Ace Hardware or at Lowe's. Like Mark says shouldn't be more that 5 or 6 bucks. I kinda found myself in that position on returning from a trip this summer and finding that the cable had been dragged in two. I squared the ends and cut the cable to the appropriate length(it was always to long) and slid on a connector and closed it with my railroad iron and a hammer. While there I also detected two open links in the safety chains and replace them also."SAFETY IS NO JOKE"

The breakaway cable and chains should certainly be on your pre-trip inspection.
