Disc Brakes on 31'and 34' trailer

Can anyone tell me what year disc brakes became standard on these units instead of being an option?
Thanks,
Mike

I believe it was mid 2005 model year....in addition to disc brakes the higher front stainless steel rock guards also were added. In most (read not all) cases, if it has the higher front stainless steel rock guards, and it's a Classic, it has discs as standard equipment, but only the Classics!

You could have it installed as an off menu option or after production for any of the other models.

mike---silvertwinkie is correct. It was the late 05 Classic's that disc became standard. We purchase a 05/25' Classic. Production date was early Nov.04, delivered Nov 27. It came with DRUM brakes. I called the factory to inquire about disc during that time period. They said they had been put on hold for a few weeks. I would assume they became standard around the first of the year,{2005} If concidering the purchase of an 05 Classic they come either way. There was a price increase with the disc brake models of about $2,500. I would assume used Disc models would reflect this added value.----pieman

option vs standard equipment...

hi hammer...

why do you ask?

really the transition 2 discs was very late in the model year...

the "option' of disc was available for only a short time prior,

as the option quickly was changed to a standard equipment feature on the classics...

for orders/builds in mid march and the new model year begins in may?

the higher segment protectors came earlier (dec/jan)...

so all the units built with discs have taller segment protectors,

but NOT the other way 'round.

2air' is right...the disc became standard in late 05 ...my build sheets for early 05 that I just looked at had drums...

I asked the question to help in my trailer shopping. I would like to have disc brakes already on the trailer I end up purchasing. I have worn out the search feature learning about Airstreams.I realize I can install disc brakes to replace drums, but if I do this I would replace the entire axle/brake assembly instead.
I'm learning how much I could expect to spend to upgrade an older trailer versus purchasing a later model.

Thanks Pieman, I know I wouldn't have to, but in for a dime in for a dollar!
I'd rather know for sure that all the running gear is in good shape. Having the water pump quit would be an aggravation, having the brakes fade going down Mont Eagle mountain could curl what hair I have left!
