Disc brake slide binding

Have heard of a problem with the earlier disc brakes having slide issues. Working on one now that has all of the outside pads into the rotors and the inners look new. Calipers not sliding and pins have free play in the hole so problem in the rubber slide section. Can try to hammer out the metal slide a little and get some brake grease on it but feel damage already done. Trailer sits more than moved so this can also be a issue. Thanks

Since no one chimed in I found out what happened and what new parts are needed to stop this problem. Also they recommend that if you convert to disc brakes you need to exercise them monthly or you will have problems down the road

These must not be 4 piston calipers.....Mine don't have slides, just pistons inboard and outboard.

I'm interested to hear what happened as I have the same brakes. It sounds like they were stuck and not sliding properly.

I was on a caravan with a person that had one of the calipers stick. He said it was the second time. Apparently keeping them sliding can be an issue. He had a caliper shipped in and changed it in the campground. Was worried about the Never Lube axle but Dexter said it should be okay.

I've had caliper slides stick on a few vehicles over the years. Gently dress the slides with a flat file, clean all components and use a lube on them. Yearly maintenance is a good idea.

Single piston calipers will have slides or pins that the caliper moves on. 4 piston caliper are rigidly mounted and the pistons move from both sides of the caliper to clamp the rotor. The 4 piston design is prone to a piston getting stuck and then either there is no braking or the brake is locked on. Single piston calipers can get stuck (in a slide or pin or the piston itself as well however the design is such that brake application usually sets it free because the caliper is designed to move around.

Either design will suffer from non-use.

Was cheaper to buy the whole conversation kits then to buy just what I needed to fix the problem by about 200.00$$$$. Just to let you all know.
