BrakeSmart (TruControl)

Has anyone tried this unit?

I have the BrakeSmart ... It was a bit less than the TruControl from Hensley. Also, Hensley's unit was orange ... ... I ordered the BrakeSmart in gray to match my interior.

This is my first controller ... so I have nothing to compare it to. All I can say is that it feels very smooth and linear when braking.

I like the idea of the unit reading the brake fluid pressure. The install was a piece of cake. For me ... it was worth the big bucks.

Thumbs up

Porky is right about the installation. It was 30-40 minutes (max) even though I did the brake bleed by myself (don't ask, it wasn't pretty). If you have a Ford there is even a rubber punch out in the firewall so that you don't have to do any drilling...clean installation overall and the color match is quite good.

I can only compare it to a time-delay unit that I used previously and with which I was unimpressed. Read through the website or talk to Steve about the various controller options. Then remember that this is what will be keeping you and your family and your Airstream safe whenever you are on the road. Makes the choice simple(r).

"Steve" (below) as in Steve Guidry at the BrakeSmart Company. He was very informative about my truck and trailer application.

You can also hook this unit up to your exhaust gas temp sensor and boost sensor if you have one of the diesel engines in your rig.

Their website is: http://masterbrake.com/. Hensley no longer carries their product as the TruControl.
