Brake shoes

Iffy of mine is doing the brakes and bearings on my 04 classic limited slide
Airstream is telling me the shoes are special order? Arent they generic 12pm electric brakes????

There should not be any problem getting shoes for electric brakes.

The however, in this is usually the magnets wear out before the shoes and all individual parts are overly expensive .

The entire backing plate assembly including shoes magnets etc can usually be found for $ 50. or less ( Try eastern marine) and everything is new which is why most shops go this route.

The magnets or shoes would likely cost nearly as much as the whole assembly. If you needed both they would exceed the cost.

As far as i have seen the shoes are pretty much generic. I.E Dexter will fit on Hayes etc.

I just went through this. I replaced everything on my 83 31' Excella. Mine were what the dealer call 12" x 2. I still had the original round magnets which were actually still in fair shape. The new back plates come ready to bolt on after getting the old ones off. 5 bolts each wheel. If the bearings look good. Clean and repack. Remember the wheel seal on the rear bearing and connectors to hook back up the wires to the magnets. Each wheel took me about 2 1/2 hours but I'm old and slow. Nice thing about this trailer is just pull up on about 3 2x6's and one tire will hang in the air. No jack needed Sum up. Cheaper to go ahead and get the new backers just easier.
