Does anyone out there know how to determine the manufactor of the electric brakes on my camper? I have a 1968 Sovereign with what appears to be the original brakes. The drums are 12 in diameter, shoes are 2 in wide, and the backer plates have 5 mounting bolts. I appreciate any feedback.
I have had Hayes brakes and would not recommend them for this reason. The single spring does not center the brakes shoes as well as the double springs do. This has a tendency to leave the forward shoe in contact with the drum after the brakes are released resulting in a HOT SHOE.
You may not feel this but if you have an exhaust gage on your diesel you will see it in the exhaust temperature.
Complete new backer plates and assembles are to cheap to run the risk.
Over the years as magnets or shoes wear out I have just replaced the assembly. The last set of axles I got came with Chinese parts and the magnets caused some problems so that set went last spring.
It takes less time to change te backer plates than to change a set of shoes and only cost a bit more.
