Walter,
Hope everything goes smooth. Please if you can, get a picture of the new hose assy if possible. I'm curious as to their configuration.

Brake Recall
We recently had our brakes repaired in California and the new line is straight rather than a 90 degree angle like the original. The brake lines on our '06 were nearly broken!

Thank goodness for Airforums.
If we hadn't seen this thread we would have been none the wiser.
Having emailed JC, it was confirmed that our trailer is on the recall list. Action is now taking place for the parts to be shipped to the UK to be fitted by Airstream Europe.

I am the second or third owner of my 2003 Classic and, of course, our name isn't on the original owners card that was sent to JC ( if original owners cards are sent).
My question is-- since I am not the original owner, how would I get my name of a list of 2003 Classic owners who might have a recall issue on my unit that I could not possible have been notified, by mail?
Does this make sense?
I am a member of wbcci, #4782
Thanks

Mac,
Did you try writing a letter to AS in Jackson Center?

No, I never even thought about it until I saw this recall. I guess I will be writing a letter soon.
Thanks

Contact Randy McNeely : Randy McNeeley [mailto:rmcneeley@airstream.com] via email and provide him with proof of ownership and he will place you on the owners list. This will provide you with future recall notices.
In my case, I sent him a copy of my Florida vehicle title.

Recall Refund

I actually had a conversation with Parrott when this happened, almost two years ago. It was obviously a design flaw. I wanted to know what they were going to do to fix it, and he basically told me to pound sand.

Airstream is providing reimbursement to owners of units under the recall notice that can provide documentation of ownership of the TT and receipts for the costs of repairs. Contact Randy McNeeley [mailto:rmcneeley@airstream.com] at JC.
At least, this is what was done in my case.

nickmeloy,
That seems darn resonable on their part. Too bad I did it my self, but that was my choice and since installed, I have had no issues with the revised line configuration that I came up with.

Friends: I had the brake recall work performed yesterday at Bill Thomas RV in St. Louis and it took the repairman most of the day! He had a very tough time with a fitting that would not seat. And he found a blocked line, which he fixed. I towed 300 miles today and really enjoyed the feel of the newly reworked brakes. This was wonderful service and great factory support. Thank you Bill Thomas and Airstream!

Andy, thanks for the valuable info! I just signed up on the NHTSA website for notices related to our 2011 Airstream. It was simple.

New hoses fitted last week after being airfreighted by JC.
JBinKC - possibly this was your problem.
The tech guy initially discarded the brass fiting that connected the old hose end to the caliper and tried to screw the new flex hose flare nut straight into the caliper (this would have resulted in a flare to flare connection and would have leaked). I had to point out to the tech guy that this brass fitting should be retained, which he did, and all hoses seated correctly.

Folks,
Suggestion.
Look under your trailer and inspect the routing of the new hoses. Look on the frame, do you see evidence of the hose rubbing on the frame? Then look at the hose for a flat spot from rubbing. No rub marks? That's what you want to see.
I just saw this on another trailer that had the recalled hoses. It can most likely be re-routed with a bit of sweat equity, but be careful.

I would also suggest taking some rubber hose, slit it lengthwise and zip tie them around the brake hoses in the areas of potential contact with the frame during suspension travel.

Rich,
That is an option and is a fairly common feature on hoses in possible abrasion areas.
This trailer had the recalled hoses previously and this fall just got 2 new axles at JC.
These hoses were rubbing the frame.
The hose design can be routed in a non contact arc back to its fitting. These were rotated inward pointing to the frame, rubbing.

I get it. I still don't trust any hose within about 1/2" of any potential contact point. Since axles/calipers move around a lot during travel...and I can't see them while in motion, I perform the old "belt and suspenders" activity. Also, as you may remember, I used a readily available automotive part number replacement hose and an adapter from hose to caliper. IIRC, the automotive hose was 1" longer than the OE AS/dexter hose.
