brake magnets

I have a 1960 Overlander with the original style brakes. They are in perfect shape except for the round brake magnets. Does anyone have a source for these? All I can find are the oval magnets!

As far as I know round magnets have not been made for some years. You might find some old stock somewhere. Otherwise you will have to upgrade your brake system.

I have a source but I won't be able to get you the email address til Monday. Btw it's more cost effective to just replace the entire brake mechanism ($50 wheel shipped). That's what I did when looking for round magnets.

I am really hoping to not have to upgrade at this time. Too close to vacation time for comfort.

Round brake magnets can still be found there just not as popular anymore. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories.../BP01-068.html

Steve, with a week and a half until vacation starts and a 50 plus year old trailer, I am leery of ordering the whole mechanism...I have a bad feeling that it will not fit. This thing has the old-style leaf spring suspension. I am thinking that a whole new axle is in my future, but I am hoping to limp her through one more trip.

Understand. The only real factors are four bolts vs five, and 10 inch versus 12. It took me about 2.5 hours per wheel because I could not get a socket on any of the five nuts on each of the four backing plates, plus soldering 8 wires and repacking the four bearing pairs.

We did a 500 mile trip the next day.
