Brake Controller for 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We have a 23 ft. Flying Cloud. We just replaced our tow vehicle with a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with a factory installed trailer tow group IV which includes a 7 and 4-pin wiring harness. Unfortunately it does not come with a factory installed brake controller nor is there a Mopar brand made for this new Jeep model. We also understand there is a knee airbag behind the dash. We're looking for advice on what brake controller to use and install and whether anyone else has already installed a brake controller in a recent edition Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I have a 2014 Durango, same vehicle only longer, and installed my P3 to the right of the drivers door below the gas filler button.

Prodigy also makes a wireless model which allows you to mont your controller in any position.

I had a 2014 Grand Cherokee and mounted it on the left of the steering wheel. Then I kept hitting my knee on it when I got in and out of the vehicle. So remember to take that into consideration. Other than the knee issue, I had no problems.

I also have a brake controller I'll sell you (I upgraded to a truck with integrated brake controller).

I have a 2014 grand Cherokee summit. Purchased the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller and a wiring harness for the Jeep, both on amazon.

Easy install, it clips right in at lower left drivers side wires. I installed mine to the lower right of steering column, ran wire up under dash and then used a cable tie to secure the wire.

I can post pictures and/or amazon links. We have a 23D flying cloud.

The Jeep handles it nicely, only issue is payload, have to really watch what I put in Jeep, basically just people and dogs, no gear.

Let me know if you want me to post any pictures.

brake controller

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel and use a Tekonsha Primus IQ mounted to the right of the driver under the dash. It works great.

We use a Tekonsha P3 on our 2014 Jeep Summit GC Eco Diesel towing a 2015 23' FB. The 7-pin harness works well. Mounted it to the right of the lower panel near center consol using Velcro. This allows easy removal when not in use and prevents theft. The position is easy to reach with my right hand when I desire to manuallt use just the trailer brake. I use paddle shifters most of the time, but every once in a while you want to slow just the trailer.

Velcro holds well and there is no need to penetrate the Jeep's interior. Car Toys offered to locate it in the center consol under the infotainment display, but it was a bit expensive and took up space I prefer for other uses.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks to everybody for their input and help.

On our last TV, we started with the Velcro mounting but found it didn't hold in hot summers. May try that again to avoid drilling holes in our new car. We'll see. Probably going with the Primus IQ, rather than the P3, as it seems sufficient for our use.

Thanks again for your help.

I used 3M VHB tape 4950 on the mounting bracket. It is hard to remove, you need running alcohol to get it off. Very sturdy, holds, no drilling.
