Bearing Cap

I am looking for a threaded bearing cap for a 1964 bambi II. It is a threaded cap which is unusual and is 2" in diameter. If I can't find one I have to replace the axle. Is there anyone who has replaced the axle on a 64 bambi and was it a good choice.

Bearing Cap

Louie, Welcome to the FORUMS. I will look through my spare parts and see if I have another bearing cap. Gimme a few days, because work is hectic right now.

Louie,

First, welcome aboard! The bearing caps are out there, and posting a request here is probably your best bet to find one.

Lots of old axles that have been replaced, so the parts are sitting in someones garage or junkpile. I'm sure you will find one eventually. I gave mine away (along with the hubs and plates) a few years ago.

We have the original threaded caps on our Bambi II -- I will keep an eye out and let you know if I see any come up.

I can't answer your axle question as we didn't need to replace our axle. There are some good axle threads located in this forum where you can probably get an answer to your question. Check out the axle sub-forum: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f437/

Are you sure you need to replace the whole axle? Might be all you need is new hubs. Or at most hubs and backing plates. Is it a Hadco axle?

Our Overlander had 3 threaded caps on the brake drums, and one "hammer on" cap on a slightly different drum. If you can't find the threaded cap, you can get a new drum with a cap, and the problem is solved.
A new drum costs more than a cap, but if you can't find one, it is better than running without one.
