Ford Integrated Brake controller

I have been using my 2014 F250 to tow my 1988 Excella II, 29ft'r with no problems. I set it per the factory guide and usually end up around 7 on the setting. Has never failed or provided excessive braking. It has also provided very smooth braking in some aggressive stops. Great controller!

Yep I like the old KH... it has a tab handle that you screw in or out to adjust the amount of current needed for the vehicle brake pressure... simple and easy... I included pix of the unit I have... I also have the inline resistor chart.. where I have mine set at the max current through them all... which seems to work well for the airstream... at weight...

These are the older ones... but, the new fords use a variation of it with electronics that works off the break line pressure too.. They work going up hill or down.. unlike we found the P series seems to have problems with and the TV needs to make up the difference or have to be re-adjusted so you get equal breaking on the TV and RV.

The main reason that you cant use the old ones today is because the anti-skid on the vehicles is not compat... on my older TV PU.. I dont have anti-skid so it can work on it... and it works well...

Never a problem.. well ok so it can leak... what a 15 cent O ring fixes it right up... simpler and yet more reliable... than the new all electronic ones.. with the bells and whistles...

here is pix of mine and the insides... from the man inst manual...

2017 F250 KR went 10000 miles up and down the Rockies on 5.5 pulling a stocked up 25FB. Once it needed 6 but that was on a steep downgrade but otherwise 5.5.

As an aside- I saw the brake controller mounted on top of the dash. In Florida, (at least) it is ticket able to have anything mounted on dash or windshield (except of course your toll transponder). I almost got a ticket for having 3" x 2" tire monitor stuck on my windshield. I looked it up. He was right. I guess that anything that does not make the state money is illegal.

I have a 2016 F250 towing a 27FB with the truck controller set at 6.5. In 20,000 miles, no problem.

I wondered about that when I saw the neat-o dash mounted brake controller. I still may do it, having the controller just above my knee under the dash means I have to actually look for it when in a desperate situation. Not good.

Thanks for all the information. We have taken two shorter trips - total of about 800 miles. Integrated brake controller is working well. Settings that seem to work for us are: Brake Effort = maximum, Gain = 7.0. Started with the gain at 7.5. Seemed a little "grabby" today in a 325 mile drive. May dial either the effort or gain back a little for the next drive in a couple of weeks.

Just curious, do you have disc brakes? I have a 2008 30’ Classic with 2014 F250. Same truck with 2013 25’ FC, I used 6. On the 2008 and new HydraStar Actuator, I use 7. Never a problem and been done some very steep, long grades

25FB requires 5.5 fully loaded on a fully loaded KR crew but went to 6 for a short period on a particularly long and steep part of the Rockies. No issues at all with the FORD as there were also none with my P3 on the Toyota.

Our 2008 Classic has disc brakes - new rotors/pads in September 2015. For long down hills, I use cruise and tow/haul to control the speed and use the brakes sparingly. The 2017 F250 seems to let the speed creep up more than I remember with the 2012 F250, but still keeps control.

Charlie,

I never use cruise while towing, I found I get better mileage without it.

Next time you are on a downhill with towhaul engaged, turn cruise off before you start downhill....see how that compares.

You are correct. I like using the cruise control but it does bite into gas mileage. I disconnect it when traveling over hilly terrain this where it is the worst.
Otherwise I just pay the piper for the pleasure.
