2001 25 ft safari

Just bought a 2001 25 ft safari. Towing with a 1500 Chevy with 6.0 liter engine and tow package. Do I need an electric brake controller?

Unless it is a fairly new truck with a brake controller built into the truck you need a brake controller.

Yes you need a controller!
It is a law in most states that any trailer that weighs over 3000 lbs must have brakes.

I have never seen a Chevy 1500 with a 6.0, but the aluminum block 6.2 is an optional engine.
Yes, if the truck does not have an integrated trailer brake controller you need one.

Agree with others. Unless built in, you need one.

Does your 1500 have factory tow package? Normally that would include a transmission oil cooler, as well as a under dash plug/port for a brake controller. Towing a trailer as heavy as your AS will add heat to transmission oil. As heat is a major killer of automatic transmissions, a transmission oil cooler is highly recommended.

Never mind I just re read OP first post. They have the tow package. My bad

I have the same AS, 2001 Safari 25'. Yes you absolutely need an electric brake controller. My first two TVs didn't have a factory installed controller, but both had tow packages and were prewired for an aftermarket unit which I had installed. My current TV (Ford F150 with 5.0 and tow package) has a factory installed controller. Towing without one would be terrifying and I probably wouldn't be alive today.

Yes - my input is you do need one. It is the only way the brakes on your trailer can be activated

Airstream sells DirectLink at their service center. I've used mine for 3 years. It is really smooth system for either drum or electric over hydraulic brakes. Call the service center and ask Carly or Shelly about them. guskmg

I used a Prodigy P3 with a 2001 Safari 25 and an F-150. It worked very well. I felt like the truck/trailer combination stopped almost as well as the truck alone. Follow the P3 instructions for setting it up. I think I used boost level B2 on the highway and B1 or B0 around town.
