10" to 12" brakes?

My 25 has the 10" brakes. Not sure what I want to do. My axles seem okay but they are close to 30 years old. My first choice is to change axles if I can find someone who is not too busy to do it.

Other choices are to replace shoes on the brakes I have or to replace the assemblies

My question is can I just put the 12" backing plate and assemblies on the present axles and buy the new 12" drums?

If I can and do will the brakes be "better".

Hope there is an axle vendor at the International Rally. I will probably wait until I get there to make a decision.
