Michelin says at five years tire should be inspected annually for age related issues. Ten years max.

Smile Michelin LTX

I have had Michelins LTXs removed ,due to cracks between the threads at 4 yrs old, on a TV, a full size suv. There were about 50% worn and were a daily driver, although not far , about 12k per year. There are other good brands out there, depends on the application. All Michelins are not the same. The costs vs value, decision , does not always add up, in every application. That was my experience with Michelins. Now am giving BF Goodrichs a try.

Yep, it varies. I just pulled a set of five year old, 70K mile Michelins off of grandaughters '10 Ford Fusion. These tires had no weather checking at all, and still had enough tread they were not yet to the wear bars. Replaced with same.
Last year pulled the OE BFG's LT's off the F350 ( 2006 model ) with just 40K miles, but getting pretty severely weather cracked.
All a matter of watching these tires, no matter the brand, use, etc. They are either looking and performing well or they are not. The wise person takes them out of service before they fail if you can. Constant inspection, always with an eye toward safety first and "getting your money worth" a distant second.

Edit: ps, I continue to have good luck with BFG's on the Nissan Frontier. On third set now.

Tires age out...

That clock sure is ticking! Are you aware tires may age out long before they wear out? You "did a thorough inspection" of the tires, meaning you examined the manufacture date on the tire? Or you did a visual exam looking for checks, bulges, tread wear, etc.?
