White letter tires on Airstream

I was just flipping through some old pics. This one was taken shortly after we just bought it in 02 and towed it home.

It came from the PO with Sears branded "white lettered", Michelin tires. Guessing you don't see that every day so I though I would post the pic.

I thought it looked good for a tire on a trailer and the size was P235x15's.

At first glance the tires looked healthy with over 90% tread left and we towed the trailer home without issue (a 3 hour drive).

After getting it home and further inspection we noticed some cracks between the treads so I tooked them to Sears to have them checked. The Sears tire rep ran the serial numbers though the computer and he reported that they were over 12 years old. I replaced the tires (without the white and all has been well ever since.

Got them on my Airstream. Same tires, 3 years old, around 40000 miles, no problems. You can not see it though, unless you crawl under. I had them mounted with the white letters on the inside.

What I find really strange is that your 02 trailer had 12 year old tires on it? I wonder if the PO put a ake off set from his car on it or what? Or replaced the trailer tires with old stock Sears when he bought it?
