I was reading a thread on tires today and the dialogue had shifted to spares. I was reminded that I had not checked the pressure in mine for far too long. Yep, I have a compressor on board but messing with airing the spare up on the side of the road may increase my exposure time to the dangers of the traffic flying by.

How is the air in yours?

Years ago I added a flexible braided wire valve-stem extension to our Bambi's spare. The end is held by a small cable tie in a place that is easily reached by my pump or gauge. Any time I check tire pressures, the spare is always included.

As part of my preflight checklist I check it before every trip. Valve is down so do not have to drop the rack to check.

I have our spare on the TPMS so I check it everyday!

I did too, this spring. Another forum member showed one (amazon or ebay...can't remember) about 2 feet long, so the valve is on the a-frame by the HAHA jack bracket.

Here's a photo of one available through Amazon or Camping World. The SS braided one is for under chassis applications such as an Airstream. They also may one without the braid for the trunk of a car.

Checking the pressure is on my pre-trip check list. Though one of those extension hoses a good idea. It's getting harder for me to get under the trailer and truck. (gravity must be getting more forceful)
How about checking the spare in the tow vehicle. It's even more important.

If the braided hose I ordered turns out to be of decent quality, I will fit one on the truck as well.

The one your picture shows is identical to what I have. It has never leaked and installation was as simple as screwing it onto the tire valve. I did not use the bracket; a cable tie holds the end in place on the handle of the spare's bracket.

The extension has its own valve and holds the valve on the tire open.

As stated above. Holds air and I didn't use the bracket either. Zip ties only.

I don't normally check the pressure in my spares (TV or AS), but I always have a 3KW generator & an air compressor in the back of the truck. All my wheels have Dill TPMS sensors including the spares, so I could reset the system to see the spares as well, and would do so if I didn't have the generator & compressor at hand.

As someone above mentioned... checking the AP on the spares of both your TT and TV should be part of the pre-departure checklist (just like checking the AP in all the tires of the TT and TV as well before leaving.) That said, my TV is a pickup with an ARE Shell and I always carry a small air compressor I can plug in before departure to top off any tires that need it. (...and as a failsafe, I also carry a Honda 1000 generator with a little gas to power the compressor to air up the spare tires for fellow RVers broken down on the road as I have a couple of times over the 20+ years I have been traveling the highways of this great country.)

check every day when on the road along with extra spare in tow vehicle bed. first thing in morning before heading out. aircompress & generator must have items.never leave home without em!

So, guys, tell me about the compressors you carry. I have the generator, and a compressor in the garage, but don't carry one with me on the road.

Yet.

Talk to me! I want it small and light weight. Have one for motorcycle touring, but it's way too small for the truck & trailer tires.
