What Are You Carrying For Tire Inflation?

I've been considering picking up a tire inflator for topping off at the campground or in a pinch. What is everyone else carrying?

Currently looking at this unit: https://smile.amazon.com/ENGREPO-Han.../dp/B01M2ZY5D9

I use this one, and just hook it up to one of the batteries on the trailer:

I have not seen the need to carry one.

Do you like it? I saw that on Amazon and was intrigued; but I don't own any other Ryobi tools so I'd have to get a battery and charger just for it.

And you find the 21 ft of hose and battery cables to be sufficient?

I purchased the Viair 450P from Amazon in 2013 prior to getting our Airstream. I mainly used it to air down for driving on the beach at the Outer Banks, NC. I have found it perfect to use for checking the tires before each trip on our travel trailer. The hose length as well as the battery cable length is great and would be fine on a much longer trailer too.

. I carry a couple from Harbor Fraight. A small DC powered one and a 2 gallon 150 PSI pancake AC one. Both are more than up to doing the job with out spending a lot of money.

I take along a high pressure bicycle pump. I know that's a low-tech solution but we take along bicycles anyway, so I need the pump for them. I got a really good, easy to read tire gauge with a circular face. It has a button to allow me to release air gently to arrive at the exact pressure while reading the gauge. In addition to inflating the tires, I get some exercise.

I have a compressor in the garage at home and I check the AS and TV before we leave. We stay out 7 weeks to 3 months and about once a month or so I check the pressure on everything. The AS tires hold air very well, the TV must have a slow leak in one of the tires, I have to add about 10 lbs. before moving to the next location. Most need only a few lbs. because temperature changes have a slight impact.

When we get home I use the compressor again.

Love it. Works great. The big expense are the batteries. The big lithium batteries are $99. I got a deal at Home Depot of 2 batteries for $69. And I got a Ryobi battery orbital waxer I needed for $39. Made it a little more palatable.

We have a Goodyear inflator 5000 we got it on Amazon as well. Love it. Use it at the track for race cars and at home on cars and our 1958 AS . It works very well and is fast and is rechargeable so if you do not have a plug for power that is a bonus!!

The Ryobi 12v is great for topling off the tires. If I were to buy again, I'd look for
an 18v unit with more power.

Like Aw Chief, I carry a cheap Chinese job for the last twenty years in the car, still works fine.
At home I also have a 2 gal. pancake compressor that does the job.

Tires and what I carry

I have an AS motorhome. I carry a small all metal air compressor I bought at Harbor Freight. I also "carry" a roadside assistance plan! I ONLY put "all-steel" tires on my motorhome. I have never had a flat tire, or any other tire failure, with any all-steel tire I've had on any motorhome I've owned. I'd suggest the same for your AS trailer. Go ONLY with all-steel tires, keep them inflated properly and you will have provided yourself with the best insurance against tire failure!

I have the same setup, but on my last trip I had a tire drop 7 PSI over the weekend. I would have preferred to top it off, but it was only a 3 hr drive home so I decided to keep an eye on my TPMS and go for it. I was thinking I'd prefer to have something small enough to stick in a storage compartment on the AS and use as needed.

VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor

After using battery powered and relatively cheap 12 volt pumps that took too long or couldn't get the pressure to the needed level, I purchased the VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor for $111 on Amazon. This works great, gets the pressure up quickly and high enough. Another benefit of a real 12 v compressor I can use it to purge my waterlines for winterizing. It is very quiet and has plenty of power. Here's the link:
