Under my tongue
Any bad reasons to carrying a spare tire/wheel "UNDER" the propane tanks? Ideally I want to place the spare behind the tanks but am pressed for time now and I have the material to mount it under the tanks. In fact it is 'temporarilly' there now while I decide the safety of that location.
Thanks,
Neil and Lynn

I'd be worried that when you went you a driveway that had any angle to it, the spare would catch and rip off.
Maybe just try in the TV or inside the trailer.

Directly under the front of the trailer, where the tongue goes into the trailer, is where Airstream mounted the spare tire on your trailer. It is under the body of the trailer, not under the tongue, though.

I think that it would be OK. It would add to the tongue weight. Just make sure that you are within specs.

I would think that the spare would get in the way of the WD hitch.

Yup. That occurred to me as I prepared our dinner. I knew there was something not totally right with this idea so at the risk of over grilling the salmon I hung the WDH at about where it would be positioned. Back to the drawing board. TV transport is out of the equation...it's a convertible. I guess for the upcoming rally the spare rides comfortably inside the trailer. Afterward I shall mount it correctly. Thanks all. Dinner was delicious.

Is the tire tucked up into a recess in the belly pan? Thanks for you reply.
Neil.

I'm guessing that the tray/rack that supports the tire (like a pick up) is hinged under the trailor and is lowered from the front? I cannot easily crawl under the trailer as I used to........but then again how many times will one need the spare!
Neil.

The spare tire bracket is hinged at the rear, with a single mount going to the front of the trailer with a lock on it. When you unlock it, you can lower the front of the bracket to the ground. Aluminum skin goes between the tire and the belly of the trailer.

Thank you for your informaton. I might just consider that solution. I hope your recovery is complete and swift. My wife's and my recoveries have been accelerated by aluminum treatment.
