TST TPMS Question

I've decided it would be a good investment to purchase and install a TPMS. Based on recommendations I think the TST would work for me.

The 507 sensors have batteries in them that need to be replaced. Do find replacing them to be a hassle? Do they last long enough to make their use practical?

They have a new system (510) that has five year battery that requires the sensor to be returned to TST for replacement. Has anyone used this system?

Thanks for any input!

I just purchased 5 new lithium batteries for my 507 sensors (4 wheels on axles and spare tire) and found them at the hardware store.

It only take 2 minutes to replace a battery. The issue is that you have to replace the O ring when doing that. I have found a source for the O rings in bulk and will set up a link to offer them shortly.

I have the 507 external (non-flow-thru) version. I obtained O-rings direct from TST. I found the job a bit tricky. The O-rings are about the diameter of a pencil, and you have to stretch them onto a much larger component.

BTW, the external 507 units power down when you remove them from the tires, so you can really extend battery life by remembering to take them off when storing the vehicle.

Do they last long enough? For me they did. I had them on for a year and a half. They were still working when I changed them. I just wanted to change them before they quit while we were on a trip. As mentioned above, if you take them off when you are not using the trailer, they stop sending the signal and the batteries last longer.

After all my research, I went with Dill TPMS, they've been in business since 1909, the sensors are internal and the batteries last 5-7 years, so every time it's time to replace the tires you can replace the batteries.

The kit is Dill 1504-416

To resurrect an old thread, I have the "newer" 510 TST system with 10 sensors for my dually and trailer. They are now coming on 6 years old and all but 2 of the sensor's batteries are dead. I contacted TST to find out what is required to send them back and have the batteries replaced, as I was previously told that is what you do with them.

TST, which is apparently under new ownership, since 2018 I believe, told me they no longer sell the 510 kit or sensors and NO LONGER replace the batteries in them once they die. They did offer me what I think is about a 20% discount on a new 507 kit.

I wish I knew that the 510 kit was basically like a BIC lighter, you toss it when it is empty. I hope I can get more than 5 years out of the new kit, it will be expensive otherwise.
