TST TPMS Measurement Frequency
I just read the manual for their model 507. It states that it transmits the temperature and pressure every 5 minutes. Seems like an awful lot of damage could be done to your rig if you lost air pressure due to a puncture/failure occurring shortly after the last previous reading. Am I missing something?

I skipped a page. Seems there is a "fast leakage alert". But the specs say it gets triggered if you lose 6 psi within 12 seconds. If it's only rate sensitive, and not cumulative, you could lose 5 psi every 10 seconds and be down 30 psi in 1 minute or 60 psi in 2 minutes, and not get an alert until you are 5 minutes past the previous reading?

That's a good question for Mike. My alarm went off as soon as the tire guys broke the bead to replace the tire but that would fit in the first category you referenced.

I bet TST would be able to answer your questions.

I have that Tpm system. I think you will find that you also get a fast alert if you exceed a set temp or if you drop below your set pressure. Please ck the manual or call to be sure.

Sure is a great question and one I'm sure many are waiting to hear.

Mike, are you out there? Is this correct? It doesn't seem to fit the wording in the manual.

I have two TST systems, and that is not correct.
I will leave the exact response time answer to TST as they do have a software update, but air loss and/or temp over limit is very quick. It has saved me twice.

I have the TST System. A software update is news to me. I see no mention on their website. Do you have additional information? Thanks.

Sure would be nice to get a definitive answer to Siegmann's question. It's certainly caused me hesitation purchasing one. The Hawkshead system also appears to be a carbon copy of the TST and potentially suffers the same flaw.

I sent Mike at TST an email. His auto reply says he has been out of office the entire month of February. Maybe as he gets settled in he'll come back to this thread? I included a link to it in my email...

Well, I have two TST systems and they do not have this percieved "flaw". They register deflation immediatly when tested by me on both of my systems. I do not understand the "5 minute" scan description, as this in just not true. 5 second polling seems to be about right, but an alarm is immediate and interrupts the scan.
This is from experience and not from the manual.
I would not hesitate to recommend the system to anyone.

I also have a TST system, but I also have a question about the system. I have 3 different tire pressure gauges. 1 is about 10 years old, 2nd one is a little over 1 year old and the 3rd one is old school (the white square rod with black numbers extends out the bottom to show pressure) that I've had forever. All of these gauges are very close (1 to 2.5 lbs) when checking pressure, enough that I'm comfortable with the results, but when all the tires on the AS have the same pressure and I turn the TST system on, it shows that there is a variation from 5 to 8 lbs difference between all four tires. Just wonder if anyone else has experienced this and should I be concerned?

Dave, could you be more specific how you did your test? It's our understanding that the sensors only send pressure information every 5 minutes to save energy. The display also scans through each sensor in 5 minutes unless one of the sensors report that the rate of change is greater than 6 PSI in 12 seconds. In this case where the rate of change exceeds 6 PSI in 12 seconds, the sensor reports immediately and the display notifies the user immediately. However, there is still a concern that a leak slower than 6 PSI in 12 seconds would go undetected for as long 5 minutes.

My two Dill 1506-453 TPMS systems continuously cycle with perhaps a 5 second pause at each wheel to I can read the display and monitor tire temp and pressure trends in real time.

Could you repeat your test by bleeding off about 1 psi every 3 seconds and note when the alarm sounds?
