We have a 2005 Classic 30, which we tow about 7,500 miles, 40 nights\yr. It HAD 4 Marathons mfd 14th week, 2009 and we use a TST TPMS, which monitors temp in addition to pressure, on the trailer and both tow vehicle and trailer spares.
So,how many 7500 mile trips before the failures?

No, you're right. At the time of my purchase (3 years ago) the system I wound up getting had (IMO) the best reviews for signal reception....etc., but is not available with internal sensors. It is always a compromise, I guess.

BUT, external sensors have been around for a long time, and I haven't heard of any "rash" of stem failures due to them. Have any of you?

I'm still suspicious though.

Any brand names recommended? Where is a good place to buy? You would need to have the tires rebalanced after install?

Good question. kmaggard. I noted pass-thru air models and different ones looking around with no reviews.

I'm very happy with the TST TPMS I bought. The link below is for a kit with 6 sensors - I got 4. You can get up to 22...

Purchased direct through TST and found them very responsive to calls.

I have the Doran RV model and have been very happy with it for 3 years. It has correctly indicated a problem 3 times with plenty of time to pull over before 20% of air loss. Minimal signal loss and always finds it again within minutes.
They say no rebalance needed, but it is 1/3 oz sensor. I have Centramatics....so no worries anyway.

Dznf0g - I'm so tempted by centramatics or the ceramic beads (which according to TST won't be a problem with my internal sensors).

I had these installed together with the new Michelins and as a whole that's what got balanced.

I have rubber stems and no TPMS yet. I purchased metal valve stem extenders for easier air checking/filling and found exactly the same thing - marks all over the wheels from the extenders swinging all over. I will be getting metal stems eventually.

I was reviewing the information I found for the TST tire system. I would like to know if these sensors need to be mounted internal to the tire or external on the valve stem. I think I saw both but am not sure.

I like the concept that they will monitor truck and trailer together and yet separately as needed. Some of us have trucks without their own sensing system.

Thanks all,

I think these are the ones I got. After calling Tire Rack and Summit Racing, with no luck. The issue here is my Sendel wheels have a small diameter recess in the face of the stem hole, so I needed the ones with both lock nuts on the inside, rather than one outside and one inside. The .453 hole is the one I needed (I hope....some guessing here as I was measuring with current wheels assembled)

The internal mounted TSTs I got we're attached to metal stems out of the box.

By the way - I sound like an ad for TST but I have no affiliation with them other than being a happy customer...
