Tires for 1980 31' Excella II
I recently acquired a 1980 31' Excella II. We got it from family members and Texas and now need to move it to Maine. It is in great shape but does need new tires. In looking at the owners manual it lists 7.00-15LT LRC or 7.00-15xCA-LRC for the size. I am trying to figure out what that means in "modern" tire size convention. Would love some help sorting this out.
Thanks!

Thanks again for the response. Looks like you have a pretty similar Airstream in terms of size. Do you have a preferred Brand/Model of tire that you use? In addition to doing a lot of research, I am looking to get recommendations from fellow owners.

I'm running the Goodyear Marathons (3 years without issue), but this is another hot topic. Look at the other tire threads or sit back with a tub of popcorn and enjoy the fireworks!
YMMV...

Oh yes, I have seen there is quite a bit of debate around tires. Who would have thought...

That's the tire size.
7.00-15"LT" = Light Trailer.
Your tire store should have a listing for it in their catalog. If they don't have 'em, they can get 'em from their local supplier.
Load range = "D"
Q: What's the tire size on the trailer now??

Replacement of tires
Just went through the same exercise with my 1970 AS trade winds. I removed
Carlisle 7:00x15, the same size as specified on origional set up. Ran this set
Fourteen years and no problems at all. Only changed because of age. Bought
A new replacement tire developed by Carlisle 225-90-15 bias ply 8ply. Also
Available in 10 ply if needed. One trip already performed well. Price range is
$75/tire and $40 to mount and balance. If interested locate a Carlisle dealer
And make a deal. With best wishes I am Bob Cooke

You have a great opportunity right now to do yourself a favor and change over to 16 inch tires. You get a better ride, slightly longer tire life and a move into the modern world. But, that's why they make 31 flavors of ice cream.

Tires for 1980 31' Excella II
You can also check out 15" LT tires. That's what I put on my AS, as I didn't need the extra load to justify 16". 15" are similar price to the ST and you can keep your rims.

Slightly off-topic, but close: does anyone ever put Michelins on steel rims? I'm a bit concerned with the GYMs that came on our '72 Argosy 20, na dbudget constraints seem to dictate re-using the rims I already own 'til my ship comes in. Oh, I just looked out the window and the ship still has steel rims! Don

My Michelin's are on 15" steel rims. Works fine. But at 1983 lbs per tire the OP needs to check his axle rating to see if that is enough capacity to be legal.
