the water can collect and freeze in the tire and cause an imbalance while spinning. worse yet, the water in the valve can freeze and cause the valve to leak as the tire heats up while you're driving. the rims can rust.

I only fill my tires from my compressor (when home). I drain the tank at least once a month to remove any moisture and I have a filter on the output to remove any water from the air. I live in a very dry area and still remove a great deal of water from my unit.

CATERPILLAR uses only CO2 to fill all of their expensive tires to prevent corrosion and oxidization within the tire and rim.

Walter,

fundamentally, there is nothing wrong with your 65lbs pressure. However, since you have load range D tires, and plenty of reserve capacity, plus you'r ein cool weather, you could lower the pressure to about 50lbs, get a smoother ride that way, and perhaps make things a little easier on the trailer. You will still have plenty of carrying capacity at 50lbs on load range D tires.
Moist air in the tires is not necessarily a good thing...but just putting in nitrogen or CO2 won't help much either, since the moisture most likely has already condensed inside to water.
If you're worried, have the tires removed, everything dried up, cleaned, inspected, and then install the tires, and fill thme with either dried air, CO2 ,or Nitrogen. I think, personally, that dry air will do just fine.

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like dry air and lower pressure is the ticket.

I’ll lower the pressure a bit and enjoy the ride. I'll also get a dryer for my compressor air line.

We used to service aeroplane tyres with Nitrogen but it’s not always a handy item to find at small bush airfields.

I expect moisture in the tyres will condense and freeze and throw balance off until wheel turning warms things up then it might cause wheel corrosion.

I use a blend of nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%) along with traces of other elements. I have listed the blend I use below. I call it air.
