Tire clearance inside wall?

Purchase 4 new Greenball Towmasters for my '73 Tradewind. Now there's less than an inch clearance between the inside side wall and the wheel well. I'm not too concerned about the wheel well itself, but there's a piece of aluminum along the bottom of the wheel well that would quickly turn into a disaster if the wheel ever caught the edge. Did I make a mistake on getting the bigger tire, 10 ply vs 6 ply?

If you have a blowout it probably won't make a lot of difference that trim will probably get some damage. I had a tire that even damaged the wrap behind that trim. The important thing is to always maintain tire pressure and check the tire temperature when traveling, especially on hot summer roads. It is also good to keep them out of the sun when in storage and remove as much load from them and the axles as possible.

There are several on here that have gone from 15" to 16" wheels and tires and have a close clearance.

Checking tire pressure is something I've always done, but not tire temperature. Are you using an infrared temperature monitor, and what temp is too high?

I install "TireMoni" - system and everything is under control! Does not cost a lot, temperature and tyre pressure registers on the monitor, constantly!
