Spare Tire

We have not been able to find where the spare tire is supposed to go and how is was attached to a 1970 Land Yacht Soverign. We're in the learning process. Thank you, Beverly

You might have been expected to travel without one.( the owners manual intimates that) Our 1970 did not come with a carrier either. I have constructed a carrier that accepts a compact temporary use spare, that fits just behind the propane tanks. It took a while to find the proper rim/tire combo with a proper load rating. I believe it came from an early '90s nissan truck product of some kind. A standard spare would not fit in that location without a great deal of modification. Given a few days I could come up with a picture for you if your interested. Others have constructed carriers that hide in the underbelly near the front of the coach...I have seen pictures on this forum, but I couldn't tell you where.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there

70s Airstreams had the optional spare stow flat under the floor between the tounge A frame. Some owners have retrofitted a carrier which involves cutting away that section of belly pan and finding or making a hinged support bracket. You should be able to find this if you search past threads. With tandem axles you can tow slowly on 3 wheels. I don't now have a spare, but if I get one I will just throw it in the back of my pick up.

Airstream makes a spare carrier that mounts as Lumatic says. They use it on the new trailers. Not sure if that would fit your model year.

Hello there! My 30' 1968 Sovereign stores the spare tire flat under the front of the trailer behind the A-frame - kind of under the living room sofa. It's lowered by a handle that is raised just behind the propane tanks... if that's any help. Just take a look under the front of your's to see if you have that spot in the underside of the floor - maybe you're missing the bracket or could make something.
Regards, Ryan

I have the same problem. I am searching for a design I once found showing how to make a spare tire carrier behind the propane tanks on the tongue of the trailer. Any luck finding a design or remedy for the spare tire problem, so many of us have.
