spare tire?

Does anyone have an idea where Airstream mounted the spare tires ( if offered) on their units? Specifically on mine, a 78 Argosy Minuet? I have seen a few which had it mounted on the rear bumper but always thought this was a definite no-no as I am already battling a minor degree of rear end separation as it is. ( Yes Andy, I swear I will get my wheels balanced) I thought about moving the LP tanks forward a bit and building some sort of tire cradle that I can slide the tire into from the curbside. It woiuld have to be off-center as I need room to access the fresh water tank door. The tongue is short as it is. Yes, it would be a squeeze. Maybe lengthen the tongue? Carry a can of Fix a Flat? Keep throwing the spare in the bed of my pickup???

The newer models have the spare underneath the front of the trailer, but there is a factory provision for it in the banana wrap.
I have seen spare tires mounted behind the propane bottles, even under the propane bottles on some trailers.
I am battling the same thoughts. Maybe someone has a better suggestion??

my 73 has a cradle under the front of the trailer. No spare, though...I can only assume this is what its for. I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow...

I asked the same question this past summer while at the A/S factory and, I was told that they will sell you a "spare tire" mounting kit. It's installed under your Airstream just behind the A frame. I didn't ask about the price because upon looking at one already installed, IMHO..I didn't like the looks of it.
Having said that, I should say why..It looked to me that, this would leave the underneath exposed to the weather/rain from driving, etc

I wished I had taken a picture of it..Maybe someone out there will post one..

Our '64 has it mounted on the a-frame behind the propane tanks. I don't know if it was a retrofit or not, my guess is "not" as everything else on the trailer is/was original unmodified equipment.

You win Andy, but sorry, no prize. I was hoping sombody would notice that and post it. The tire and wheel are long gone. The rack, thanks to MarilynW, has been all cleaned up is now a shiny silver, along with the rest of the front frame.

I just throw mine in the back of the truck, that way I'll never need it. You only need the spare if you leave it at home! The person I bought mine from bought a new rim and tire for a spare. He told me it was a "special" rim only used on Airstreams. Well, it fits my RidgeLane flatbed trailer too, so now I have a spare for that also!

Our spare is mounted in a bracket underneath the body, just behind the A frame.

When we first decided to replace the tires last year (they were new, in good shape when the trailer was purchased a few years earlier), we pulled the spare out as well to check on the thread condition. Lo and behold, the spare was a 5 lug pattern, P rated tire! The regular mag wheels are a 6 lug, LT rated tire (single axle). I wonder if the PO even realized this when he sold the trailer, or if he pulled a fast one. Good thing that there were no flat tires for the first two years...

I'm currently in the process of finding new wheels and tires for my 65 GT. Where in Calgary did you find replacement wheels & tires? Was there much of a selection? And if you don't mind me asking what was the $$?
I've gone down to the local Fountain Tire and all they said they could replace my rims and tires with were the standard "white" trailer rim. Quoted me a price of $485.00 for two, wheels and tires, balanced etc.

I am looking into a setup using a cable crank like trucks and vans use. I will have to wait until I remove one at work to see one out of a vehicle. I will mount it under the a frame with access behind the lp tanks, hopefully.
