I recently bought a 1985 31' excella, upgrade from my 1969. It has no spare tire carrier. My '69 had it under front, I was told that is where it would go. The '69 had an indintion in th underbelly the 1985 does not. Did it go under tongue in the A of the tongue, and what kind of mount?
Same mount for practically forever. Pretty sure Andy at Inland RV will cheerfully sell you one. Or, for that matter, any AS dealer should be able to order it.

The spare tire bracket goes under the body you will need to cut out some of the belly pan and mount the bracket . The crossmember is already drilled and tapped for the bracket .If the box you speak of is behind the propane tanks and under the frame it belongs there , the spare tire bracket will be behind that .
For many years most Airstream's were built without spare tires because you can easily tow one on three wheels until you get the tire repaired or replaced.
When a spare was an option we always suggested putting the money into a tire upgrade then the need for a spare is almost noexistant.
Having a spare tire is sort of like having insurance. Worth every penny when you need it. No mater what the brand all tires will go flat from sufficient road/curb damage, improper inflation pressure or a nail in the wrong place. Better to have a proper spare than not to have one if needed.
