Simple question, maybe.

If I have the original 7 x 15 rims on my camper (which I think I do), and I need new tires, what size (or sizes) of tires will fit my camper?

We put Maxis 225-R-15 tires on our 77 Argosy.

While there are tires that will fit the 15 in. rims they are one made in China and 2 just plain junk.

Depending on the weight of your trailer consider D or E rated light truck tires.
If you do use truck tires PLEASE do not inflate them to the max as noted on the sidewall. Use the manufactures inflation chart based on your trailer weight. You will have to find this information yourself since no tire dealer will have any idea of what you are asking for.

One of the reasons I asked the question was to avoid Chinese made tires and try to go with a truck tire. Like many, I have a horror story about cheap Chinese junk tires (in this case on my work truck). But I really don't want to turn this into another "Chinese tire thread".

I'll take another look at the thread you linked. I started reading it a while back and haven't kept up with it. I've also read several of the other tire threads and always seem to get lost in all the minutia of "sizes, offsets, bolt patterns" and other such things.

I guess it would be nice if we a single thread that explained each of the concepts in simple terms, without all the arguing. Seems tire discussions lead to some of the same problems as axle threads.

I put 225 75 R15 Maxxis tires on my Overlander. They are a "D" trailer tire. I am very lucky because we have a tire installer in Loganville that has been here for many decades. Walton Tire is the place everybody in Loganville goes to. He did a great job for me. Maxxis has a distributer in Atlanta and they will give you a list of their dealers in your area. He quoted me $80.00 last fall and gave me that price in the spring. He told me they were going up in price.

Looks to me like 225 75R15 will work for your current wheels, regardless of the brand of tire you choose. I've heard both good and bad anecdotes regarding Marathons, Maxxis, and Carlisle, so I will refrain from commenting on those specifics.

So the "ST" designation indicates a "Special Trailer" tire and "LT" stands for "Light Truck" tire? Have I got that right?

Also, is the "load range" stamped on the rim someplace? I'm assuming these are the original OEM rims from 1973 when the camper was built.

I told them "D" for a load range because that is what I read on this forum. The tire guy has done many trailers and he recommended "D".

Most st tires are rated @ 65 mph,now someone has mentioned Cooper makes st tires at around 100mph.So if you want to run speed limit go to Coopers or LT tires.Rims are center set, no back space,or offset. Rim should have max.weight stamped on it ,if you are going to replace,then go equal max. or exceed it.What ever tires you buy check manufacture date,it`s in fine print near bead,you could be buying tires that have sat in a warehouse for years.Tires start aging as soon as they are made,hope this helps.dave
