Self-inflating tires

Goodyear is working on self-inflating tires.

Another way to make tires more expensive. Don't expect to see this on the market any time soon. It will never be more than a novelty.

The military (H1) Hummer has featured a "Central Tire Inflation System" for a long time, that can inflate tires on the go, without requiring the purchase of special tires. But you don't see that system on other vehicles, despite its utility, because for normal civilian use, it doesn't add enough in terms of safety or convenience to justify the expense.

I suspect self-inflating tires will be the same.

I'd settle for non-separating Marathons.

I was told someone has them for bicycles but heat would be a problem for car and trucks.

Airless tires are being researched though.

My dad used to tell us when he was a kid in the 1920s they drove from Jersey to Florida and packed sod in the tires. Sal.

Nascar has been using tires with inner liners for years. They have saved a lot of sheet metal and lives. I remember the old urban myths of the tires that never wore out. Goodyear was never going to sell it because it would eventually put them out of business or some such nonsense.
