Renew old tire topic: 7.00-15 to 225/75R-15

I just returned from my first WBCCI International Rally and while at the rally decided the cracks on the tire sidewalls on my 1985 34 foot were bad enough that the tires should be replaced. This idea was truly encourage by an interesting seminar, I attended on tires and GVWR.

With all my concern to replace these tires, I followed the advice of many and had the Good Year Marathon 225/75R-15 tires installed.

Now since I have been home for a few days and have checked some of the chat on tire replacement, I am concerned that this choice may have been a mistake.

Can we renew the chat on this topic and hopefully set my concerns to rest!

I know that I have lost about an inch in height and hope that this is not going to be a problem. I also have been told that replacing the 225/75R tires will be easier as they are readily accessible.

What do you think about this tire replacement choice on an AS that originally had 7.00-15 as the recommended tire size?

You have changed from a bias ply (nylon) tire to a radial. People switch back and forth all the time. The ride height should not make much of a difference at all. The radials are a bit wider (fatter) and do look different on the wheel. I think you have made a wise upgrade. In most instances, the radial will give the trailer a softer ride. Be sure to follow the tires recommended pressure and keep them inflated properly.

Welcome to! You'll find information on anything you want to know about Airstream trailers right here.

However, the subject of tires, and Goodyear Marathon in particular, is a hot topic, and it's possible that you won't get much solace from some users. The subject has been hotly debated, and will never really go away as an issue, in my humble opinion, so just relax and know that you do have good tires on a great trailer.

So how about posting some photos of your rig!? We'd love to see it. And you will find that you can add your trailer information to your screen name if you go to the "User CP" page.
If it's to be, it's up to me.
