Noobie tire dilemma

Hi all,

Today is Aug. 10, 12. I just bought a 2002 25' Classic. It is my first RV. I estimate that it has seen less than 2K miles, but the tires are original. They are GYM. The DOT code says that they were mfgd in 2001. I need to take the trailer out soon, so need to address the tire replacement issue.

I have searched through posts here and I feel that the Michelin LX M/S 2 235/75/15 are my best choice. I look at putting 10K miles on the A/S annually for the first few years.

I called my local Discount Tire franchise, and he pushed the Carlisle 225/75/15 8 ply tires, reason being that they were "trailer tires". They run cooler, etc.

I don't think at this point I want to change to 16"

I think I should go with the Michelins, 1. because I respect the brand, and 2. because I respect folks with long term experience on this forum.

What would you go with?

Please link me to any other threads.
Thanks,
Colby

I blew up 5 Carlisles in less than two years with less than 10k on any of them. Literally disintegrated despite my fairly anal tire maintenance obsession. I was underwhelmed.

I have GYM's (US made) on now and they have gone (knock on wood) about 8k with no problems.

Lots of folks love Michelin (have them on my TV).

With a 25 footer, I'd buy the Michelins and never look back. I've bought my last "ST" tire....never again.

Strongly consider the Michelins and the upgrade to 16" wheels. You can buy the aluminum wheels for about $105 each from Tredit, performanceplustire.com, or other Internet resources. If your experience is like mine you can recover at least 3/4 the cost of the new wheels by selling your old wheels.

This is a lot to digest, but it should give you a summary of the varied opinions on this forum.

Happy reading!
