All the snow has finally melted so we are now moving from planning season to execution season. Just ordered 16" Sendel T03's and will be putting Michelin's on them.

Then it's time to go camping!

Anyone know anything about these tires??
I could not find the specs on the Nokian website that gave the diameter of this tire. Discount tire was the one who recommended this tire or the Michelin. He also said that the Michelin was made of natural rubber and the Nokian was synthetic (or was it the other way around?). Not sure what this difference means in real world, but maybe the synthetic is less susceptible to UV damage. Just speculating.

I ended up with the Michelins on our 23'FB. However, I would like to research the possibility of having new axles installed that would have the six-bolt pattern and would allow me to put 16" wheels and Michelins on, assuming the tire opening would accommodate the larger tires. Also have a lift kit to install that may help with the clearance.

Steamy,
That's a lot of overkill for a 23'er in my opinion. There are plenty of 15" tires that will give you years of trouble free service.

We have a lift kit and 16" Michelins on our 19", and I really like the ground clearance and how smooth it pulls with the load range E tires. I am trying to replicate this on the 23".

If you want tall 15" tires, the Yokohama RY 215 is 29.4" tall.

But, if you just have a bunch of money and like to spend it, that's cool too.
Your very own economic stimulus package of sorts.

Going from the stock 14" wheels and tires on the 23D to the 15" SenDel T03-56545T wheels and 15" Michelin LTX (P) 235/75R15 XL tires raised the trailer 1.1" as the Michelins are 2.2" larger in diameter. These are the same pattern wheels we have on the Classic and is the pattern Airstream is using for the factory installed 16" Michelin tires on the 2015 and later 31' Classics and the Eddie Bauer models.

The wheel openings weren't identical so we had to trim over an inch off the metal curb side front to have the same distance from the vertical plastic wheel well lining and that gave me about ⅝" clearance for the that front tire. The other side was just over 1" clearance.

With the trailing arm suspension, the tires move back and up on bumps.

The 16" Michelins have a 29.2" diameter while the 15" are 28.9" in diameter.

One would have to go to 12" drum brakes with a 23D to get the 6 lug nut bolt pattern associated with 16" tires. The SenDel folks make both a five and six bolt 15" wheel in the same look. They also make the 16" wheel in six and eight lug bolt patterns.

If it could be proven in court that that the tire was at fault, remember Ford and the Bridgestone ordeal?.. Who is paying?

Switz,
Good information; so the question is if it is possible to replace the 10" drum with a 12" drum, on the existing axle?

No, you can't put a 12" drum on a 3.5K axle. It doesn't matter though.

You can use a 10" hub and drum with 6x5.5 lugs as long as it is a standard 3.5K axle.

I don't believe we need to derate LT tires.

just had the Nokians mounted. going to try these out for our September trip to the PNW:

Nokian Rotiiva AT ATV Radial Tire - 235/75R15 113S

The fact that these are a true LT tire with a LRE rating are appealing. Will see how they compare to the Michelins, which are a P rated tire.

Updates to follow.

We've had our Nokians mounted with centramatic balancers... and we've crossed the country several times. Utah off road, New mexico.. and next week florida (we're in Michigan).

The nokians are great tires... and durable. Ours show little wear. With the savings on not buying new wheels, you can invest in other goodies as well.

We've had the Michelins.. and we've had the GY ST's... the Nokians are our favorite.

Reassuring to hear this from actual experience. Even the tire guy said it was a great product and he does not carry them.

Do you run at 80 psi?

Depends on the weight we're pulling. On our 28', if dry, I usually go 70-72

At full 80 we did have a few rivets pop. Easy fix.

On our new 23 globetrotter, I will run them at 65 or so.
