By golly, the link to that web page was worth the price of admission (as the saying goes).
Many thanks. I always wondered about those nitrogen claims.

So it looks to me like the most efficient thing to do would be to just buy some green tire valve caps if you just have to have them.

Waste of money. Our Accord came with them, but guess what? If you check them, you lose a little pressure each time, and since you probably don't have compressed nitrogen sitting around at home, you have to refill them with regular air - who wants to run to the dealer every time you need the tires inflated? Ours did give us a low tire warning around 10,000 miles. I check and refill them regularly with normal compressed air.

Agreed 100%! I just bought an Accord. While it didn't come with nitrogen, at least it doesn't have green caps, I just got a flyer saying since I am now such a valued customer that one of the benefits is having my tires filled with nitrogen in the future for free.

One thing nobody talks about is that the tire is full of air when it is mounted. The only way to get pure nitrogen would be to pull a vacuum on the tire/wheel assembly like done during air conditioner service. Frankly, I don't think I want my tires subjected to that. (As if that would ever happen. )

I forget where but I found a set of four green caps two years ago. My tires have stopped wearing, I get better traction, and they never change temperature. These green caps are the greatest.

When I bought my truck I was assured that the tires were mounted on the rims in a pure nitrogen environment by an automated tire mounting system and that no air was in the tire.

Who says it's not easy being green?

Too bad the space shuttle is not in service anymore. They could have mounted a tire machine in the bay and gone into business mounting tires in space and then filling them with nitrogen.

Nitrogen is air for all intents and purposes other than respiration. I am going to have to get me some of this selling air as something other than air thing. This is the best dang air you are ever going to find. I invented if myself. It took many years to invent air. Sounds like Mr Haney on Green Acres.
