We ordered a 25 Flying Cloud a few weeks ago and inquired about the option of having the 16" wheels and Michelin tires put on at the factory. They came back with a quote of $1,700 for "16 inch Bauer style aluminum wheels and Michelin radial tires. Replace standard spare wheel and tire with a 16" steel wheel and Michelin radial tire."
I elected to buy tires and wheels locally (America's Tire, AKA Discount Tire) because of the replacement warranty at any store, lower price, and the fact that their price included 5 rims all alike so I can rotate the spare if I wanted to. The tires I bought were 16" LTX MS2. I'll take the trailer there on the way home from the dealer and have the tires and rims swapped.

Discount Tire link in previous post "expired". Here is another link to the same tire on Tirerack.com.
There appears to be two models, with one having a "Green X" designation for low rolling resistance. Since the one designated Green X is a few dollars less, you may wish to consider this one to save money and a little fuel.
Michelin*LTX M/S2
Note: Above estimate of $1,400 is for 4 wheels and tires. If you decide to replace the spare, it will be about $350 more.

As I understand the post with the $1700 upgrade, that was in place of the original tires and wheels. By taking delivery with the standard equipment and replacing immediately, you would have the 5 OE tires to sell, reducing the investment further from the aftermarket price.
Is that right?

I will be selling, but since I won't be picking the trailer up until end of Feb/ first of March can't do much til then. Don't know how to get them to you either. I plan on putting them on the classified site and probably selling them within 100 or so miles of Amity, Oregon for $600., set of 5. We are gone most of March (not in the trailer) so this will happen sometime in April.

As a tire engineer, I have always been skeptical of these automatic balancing devices. This video demionstrates why.
Notice the red bracket that is hanging down behind the tire. It's at the complete bottom. In the first demonstration, it doesn't vibrate at all. When the magnet is applied, it vibrates like crazy - just like you'd expect.
But when the Centramatic device is applied, and they perform another run, the bracket is still wiggling - albeit smaller than when the assembly is out of balance, but it is still wiggling. In other words, the device doesn't seem to completely balance the assembly - and doesn't restore the balance to the previous level.
Just an observation.

Here's a thread that I started, detailing my original tire failure through the replacement of the wheels and tires. I included some detail receipts and costs. If you shop around, and take advantage of various sales or discounts, you can get the cost down quite a bit. Also note that if you have aluminum 15" wheels, you can sell those and recoup a lot of the cost of the new wheels.

Jack-
We have a 2002 30' Classic SO and I am about to pull the trigger with the same or similar 16" wheels/tires that you have. I also noticed on the link that one AS owner went with the XPS RIB insteasd of the LTX and they were $100 more for each tire. What is the advantage, if any, with the RIB over the LTX? Thanks for all of your posts.

Pap, the Ribs have a steel casing which makes them eligible for recapping, which sometimes occurs in commercial truck use. The Rib is a summer tire where the LTX I'm using is also rated for mud and snow. Quite honestly that aspect isn't important to me since I don't use the trailer in those types of conditions.
I would assume that in a high use situation a Rib might give you better tread life although both tires are rated for 60,000 miles. From my standpoint, I will be disposing of those tires after year 4 or 5 of use. I also, knowing my travel needs, will not drive 60,000 miles that period of use. So is it worth the premium? At this time most of us are in our first year or two of use in using these tires and time will tell if we have regrets taking LTX vs Rib.
The reality is if the performance is there with the LTX tires over 4-5 years of use, I'll be happy and will have saved $400 to boot.
Maybe some of those choosing the Rib over the LTX can give their views.
With a $70 rebate on my tires, the cost premium over a new set of E rated ST tires wasn't that much.

Thanks again for the info. I am looking at buying the LTX-M/S-2's in 225/75R/16E X 4 @ $213 and 1 Cooper at the same diameter E rated for $139 as the spare. Am also ordering the rims same as you including the steel rim for the spare. Did your new 16" spare fit ok under the hitch frame?

I haven't purchased that tire yet. I will have to bend the prongs out that hold the spare in place. I don't know if you are in a rush but if you wait you might catch a Michelin sale in the spring. I saved $70 for the set of 4.

I just ordered a set of 16" Sendel wheels with Michelin M/S 2s. I guess I will have to bend or move the prongs for the spare once I see how much additional space the new tires will need. I will sell the five wheels/tires from our 2012 once the new ones arrive. I did order mine on line.

I see that many people, when moving from 15" wheels to 16" wheels, change out the spare as well. Using a tire calculator such as Tire Diameter And Circumference Calculator shows the difference in diameter of a 225/75R15 and 225/75R16 to be 1", or 1/2" radius.
Most cars these days have a reduced-size spare, on which you can run a limited number of miles. Any concern temporarily running on a slightly smaller spare on the trailer in an emergency?

I would not consider a GYM ST model tire a viable spare since they need constant air pressure monitoring and seem prone to failure. After bringing the trailer home from the dealership, I replaced all five GYM ST tires with Michelin P235/75R15 XL 15" tires that have a more than adequate safety reserve for a 7,300 GVW trailer and provide a softer ride for the trailer since max pressure is only 50 psi.
There are numerous tire threads in this forum on the 15" vs 16" issue. I reached a decision I am comfortable with.
YMMV

In my case, I ordered a set of 5 so I'm changing out the spare as well. I haven't seen a space saver trailer tire. I guessing it could be the load capacity. I may have an inch to wiggle around. Thanks for the tire info.
