Which new tires?

It is time for new tires on my 29' Excella 1000. I will NOT buy a Firestone tire of any kind and am a little nervous about Goodyear (have had two of them blow in last five years). Someone told me Cooper's were pretty good but when I checked on them the dealer said they no longer made ST tires of any size. Does any member have a suggestion, based on actual use? I do not care what the price is. When it comes to tires I do NOT scrimp! Our trailer is a 1988, 29' all spruced up and ready to roll! Thanks for any information

I went with the Goodyear Marathon radials. ST225/75R15D.

According to the Goodyear dealer, these new load "D" tires with an "S" within a circle after the word "radial", are the updated trailer tires from Goodyear and that I should not have any problems.

I pulled the A/S from FL to BC and back with no problems, every even wear and a smooth ride.

Just thought I'd give you my 2 cents -John

same here, except i have the load range c tires.

checked with my dealer and they were not part of the circle s recall.

this is my second set, i will get goodyears again.

last time i looked they were around 90 to 100 dollars at sam's club.

If I remember, Goodyear had a recall on the Marathon a couple years ago and the new improved have the "s" like John said. You didn't say but I assume the blowouts you had were on trailers with the old Marathons that were likely eligible for prorated replacement from Goodyear. I realize that doesn’t do you much good now, but might be the reason for your bad luck with Goodyear.
Other options are Carlisle and Chaparral that both make the ST 225/75R15 in the load range D (2540 lbs). Carlisle specializes in trailer tires but that is not a testament to their quality.

I echo the recommendation for Good Year Marathon Radials. I have a set of four P235 75ST 15 Load Range D Marathons on my '64 Overlander and a pair of P225 75ST 15 Load Range C on my '78 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre. I can't speak to any other brands as the only trailer tires I have used since 1980 have been Good Year Marathons - - first as bias ply belted tires, and more recently the radial variety. I have only had one blow out, and that was in 1980 - - the result of a trailer that was overloaded (suspension, chasis, and tires) when it left the factory, and as a novice I didn't know enough to have the trailer weighed until after the accident (the trailer was not an Airstream product). Since then I have traveled tens of thousands of miles on Marathons, and have never actually worn one of the tires out as I always replace my trailer tires by age - - at five years of age out they go to be replaced with new.

Not speaking from experience but have read post on the Casita forum of tire problems with the Carlisle tires. It is my understandiing that Casita changed brands because of trouble with the Carlisle. Take it with a grain of salt...

TrailManor also ditched Carlisle for Goodyear because of blowout problems. It seems to have worked.

Does anyone have information on Nanking ST tires.. The Avion I'm buying has one new one and would get three more at approximately$72 per.
